When you install a solar geyser you can qualify for a rebate from Eskom.
Solar Water Heating is one of the strategic initiatives that is incentivised by
the Eskom Demand Side Management (DSM) programme. The DSM programme was set up to
assist in balancing electricity demand with what can currently be generated in terms
of supply.
Eskom provides subsidies in the form of a rebate to all who install solar water
heating systems in their homes or places of businesses. The rebate differs
from system to system, so confirm this information with your solar water heating
provider. The rebate is calculated based on the efficiency of the solar water heating
system and other factors
To qualify for a rebate, the solar water heating system must be registered
with Eskom, the supplier of the system must be Eskom accredited and the installer
of the system must be registered with Eskom. If you are unsure of any of these criteria,
you can contact the Eskom Solar Water Heating helpdesk on 011 800-4744 (during office
hours).
Once you are sure that your solar water heating system qualifies for an Eskom rebate,
you can claim the rebate by submitting an application form. Your installer can provide
you with the application form. Make sure that they have filled in and signed the
installer's section of the form.
If your system has an electrical backup, you must also ensure that the electrician
who issued the electrical certificate of compliance (COC) has signed the form. The
rest of the form is to be completed and signed by you, and supporting documents
such as the invoice, your ID, proof of address and electricity bill must also be
attached. You can submit the forms via post or at the designated drop off points
in the country.
On receipt of your application, you will receive an SMS confirming that your application
has been received. If there is any information or supporting documentation missing,
you will receive a follow up email stating what needs to be done. Your rebate will
be paid within eight weeks from the date of receipt of your application.
