Its the middle of May and the four months of South
African winter is upon us. Here is what you need to know when it comes to your solar
water heating and warm water during the cold winter months.
The effect of winter on
solar water geysers is noticeable
but in no way catastrophic and can be avoided using a few simple pre-emptive measures.
Due to the cold weather the water entering you geyser is going to be a few degress
colder and in return needs to be heated a few degrees more to compensate.
The sun is out for shorter time periods during winter
and is also somewhat weaker than during summer months which results in less ambient
radiation through solar rays heating the geyser.
This, combined with lower tempratures, means that you
may need to leave the electrical element on for longer in order to heat the water
to optimal temprature, this of course will use more electricity and even could use
even more so if you decide to take a long relaxing shower or bath after the hard,
cold days work.
Despite all of this, the costs of running a solar geyser
is still significantly cheaper than those of a conventional electric geyser.
Make the smart choice, the green choice. Save more than
your wallet this winter with solar geyers.
